Silicon Valley International School experienced a year of both challenges and successes during the 2021-2022 academic year. The school was proud to offer in-person learning for the entire year, and was able to keep faculty, staff, and students safe, while continuing to offer a high quality education.

Annual Fund

More than 60 parent and teacher volunteers took on the responsibility of peer-to-peer fundraising in their child’s class. Being an Annual Fund Champion is one of the more challenging volunteering role, but it is also the more rewarding as it can be said that it has the largest return on investment for their volunteering time.

Soirée du Vin Wine Auction
Each year, Silicon Valley International School hosts Soirée du Vin, an elegant wine auction celebrating fine wine and great company, and raises funds for the school’s Charlotte de Géry Endowment Fund.
In 2021, we finally saw the return of our beloved wine auction in person for the first time since the outbreak of COVID-19. The tasting hour was fantastic, the wine-paired dinner was delicious, and our live auction was riveting!

Respecting COVID-19 protocols and restrictions, the capacity of the event was reduced to 50%, event space had multiple air purifiers, and the doors were kept open. Additionally, the number of seats per table was reduced, the tasting hour was exclusively outside, and all guests were required to have full vaccination and show proof of a recent negative test result.
All the guests and pourers alike felt connected by the joy of being able to attend an in person event. As the night progressed, the atmosphere became more lively and fun-filled. Attendees had a blast, and most importantly, they felt safe doing it!

On Saturday, April 2nd, the Silicon Valley International School celebrated our 2022 Annual Gala and Auction, Champagne!
We are grateful to Véronique and everyone who had a hand in pulling together this memorable Champagne evening!
Parent volunteer Véronique M. helmed the event and gave her time, efforts, and treasure to ensure a successful event. Along with 40 additional volunteers, including Online Auction Co-Chairs Linda W. and Lindi M, and Decoration Chair Maria P., the team solicited donations, contributed auction lots, provided entertainment, decorated the gorgeous ballroom at the Palo Alto Hills Golf & Country Club, and offered a tremendous amount of support.
Our guests delighted in an outdoor cocktail hour on the beautiful patio; a live performance from our faculty and staff band, Groovin’ Together; a delicious 3-course dinner paired with wine; an adrenaline-pumping live auction; and, to cap it off, non-stop dancing.

Fund-a-Need Matching
This year’s Fund-a-Need was for the Charlotte de Géry Endowment Fund, and with the help of a $130,000 matching challenge from several generous anonymous donors, the event raised $384,501 for Fund-a-Need from Gala contributions alone!

The Finance Committee of the Board of Directors approved the first ever release of earnings from the School's Endowment Funds supporting the Arts, Financial Aid, and Operations of the School.
The amount released was approximately $309,000.
Purpose
Supports Faculty, Technology, and Environmental Programs. Named after our school’s founder, the Charlotte de Géry Endowment Fund is dedicated towards her vision for the bilingual and bicultural student of the 21st century. Contributions to the Charlotte de Géry Endowment Fund are unrestricted funds and are used to build a strong financial foundation for our school.

ARTHUR B. FRANCIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Purpose
The Arthur B. Francis Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in loving memory of alumni parent Sabrina H.’s father, Arthur. Sabrina’s family established the scholarship fund in 2013 to assist in the retention of current INTL students from elementary into middle school. Arthur’s belief of cultural immersion continues to live on by supporting one student each year.

Financial Information
The School continued to grow its operating reserves despite market fluctuations. An Emergency Assistance to Nonpublic Schools (EANS) grant was used to cover additional COVID-19 expenses which helped the school sustain itself another year during the pandemic.
With the recent market volatility, the School’s investments experienced declines in both the Endowment and Strategic Reserve Funds. Fortunately, the investment corpus is still intact as well as a large portion of prior year gains. Due to these unrealized losses, the School experienced an operating deficit of approximately $710,000.
Excluding the unrealized loss, the School realized an operating surplus of $871,000 due to mindful spending, operating within the budget, and the EANS government grant.
The 2021-2022 financial statements of Silicon Valley International School were audited by Armanino LLP, independent Certified Public Accountants. Complete financial statements are available upon request from the school’s Chief Financial Officer, Diane Morris.
